K-9 Luna E.O.W. 2.25.2021

The St. Paul Police K-9 Foundation regrets the loss in the line of duty of Duluth Police Department K-9 Luna.  On Thursday evening February 25, 2021, Luna and Luna’s handler Officer Aaron Haller deployed to support officers of the Duluth Police Department responding to a domestic assault incident.  Believing the suspect, who refused to surrender to police, was wanted on warrants for his arrest related to felonies; Luna was sent into the residence to apprehend the suspect.

The suspect fired multiple shots and hit Luna.  Lunda transported for emergency surgery, but did not survive.

Bringing greater tragedy is  the fact that Luna’s handler, Officer Haller, suffered the loss in the line of duty of his former K-9 partner Haas in January 2019 also in responding to a  domestic assault.

Both Luna and Haas were trained by Officer Haller, respectively in 2019 and 2017 by the St. Paul Police K-9 Unit’s training academy.
